Here’s a look at the strange new twist in the case.
* The couple was interviewed by the Star under the condition that Amy and David’s last name not be used. They are married but fear they will be endlessly harassed.
* Amy realized Lucy looked like Lisa when she was in a local supermarket in Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City, Mo. Three older women literally surrounded her and asked her invasive questions. They also touched Lucy to see if she had a birthmark on her right leg that resembles Lisa’s.
* Five times Amy and David have been questioned by authorities in the case. Every time, the parents have had to produce proof that Lucy is their baby. The couple feels as if everyone is watching them. Shoppers stare at the parents. The police told the Star no other incidents of lookalike babies have surfaced.
* One officer even asked Amy what the circumference of Lucy’s head was at the time of her birth.
* Lisa and Lucy look similar in photos. The babies have bright blue eyes and blond hair. Even their ears stick out in the same manner. One subtle difference is in the cheek bones. Lisa’s cheeks are chubbier. Lisa also appears to weigh more.
As babies can often seem similar in appearance, it is startling that one couple is repeatedly asked the same questions about their baby over and over due to the resemblance of a high-profile missing person case.
* Most of the incidents happened in early October when the case was still fresh on people’s minds. The fifth incident occurred Nov. 30 when an investigator interviewed the couple at home. No one knew for which department the man worked for until several hours later when a Kansas City police commander called to report the detective hadn’t logged the tip in their computer database yet.
